I have served on committees for my university department and for my professional societies, and have been on the Board of Directors of two professional societies. I’ve organized and helped to organize scientific conferences, and have served as a referee for 29 scientific journals. I’ve trained dozens of undergraduate and Masters student interns, created and run a scholarship program for historically underrepresented minorities in my field, and have served as chief scientist on research expeditions.

Responsibilities included planning, fundraising for, and running  a conference that brought together nearly 200 marine scientists, educators, journalists and conservationists to talk about how internet tools can aid in marine science outreach.
